Senior Link

Peace of mind at the touch of a button and support in dealing with doorstep callers is available free of charge to many older people in North Derbyshire. Help the Aged and D.Y.N.A.H are providing support directly into the homes of older people who live at home with no warden support.

D.Y.N.A.H provides this project in relation to bogus callers crime and Senior Safety. We fit the alarm base unit with a radio-trigger pendant which links to a response centre that is on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. On pressing one of the buttons the response centre will know you need support. They can advise you what questions to ask of people at the door and give you confidence to say no to doorstep callers and even call a friend or relative if you are frightened.

This service also gains you help if you have an accident by calling support services.

Minor Repairs

The Handyperson Service is one of the most requested and offered to those in the District of North Derbyshire and Bassetlaw areas. Request for work to be carried out are assessed prior to the work being accepted.
Types of work we may consider are replacing light bulbs/tubes, changing lamp shades, mending leaking taps, erecting shelves, putting up curtain rails and many more. This service is provided between one to three hours per customer. Work that requires more than this is quoted for and will probably fall into another category.

Safety Equipment

This Service provides safety measures allowing older or disabled people the opportunity to remain as independent as possible in their own homes for as long as possible. Something they may not be able to do without this service. It is also important to recognise that this service allows people to have greater control of their own situation, rewarding then with a better quality of life, not to mention the increased self-esteem. Each request is dealt with based on individual’s needs in most cases a decision will be reached after a safety check has been completed on the same day.
Small items of equipment such as door chains, smoke alarms can be fitted free for older people who live in the area and who are not in a financial position to purchase the items themselves. Staff will advice referrers of the detail and criteria, which must be met, prior to equipment being offered. D.Y.N.A.H gains this equipment through numerous resources although some equipment has to be purchased to the customers satisfaction and cost.

Home Improvement

The Home Improvement service is provided for people who need change to enable further independence. The range of services offered can be as small as an outside grab rail, to packing belongings for a house move, to replacing windows, doors or revamping a kitchen or bathroom. Older people use D.Y.N.A.H because they know their vulnerability is protected. This service is assessed on need and to meet the customers’ requirements.

Furniture Removal

Furniture Removal came into being in order to support older people moving down a size in property. This helps to alleviate the property market for family use of larger properties and provides older people reduction in fuel costs, repair bills etc This service is necessary for people who cannot afford trade rates.

Carpet Sales and Fitting

This year we developed a carpet-recycling project. We gained a contract with a Manchester Company to take away carpet at the G-Mex Centre in Manchester where the company lays the conferencing or events building with carpet every two days in requirements of people using the Centre. This carpet use to go to Landfill sites and we at D.Y.N.A.H now provide 4 men and hire two vans to cut up, roll up and bring back to Bolsover carpet for recycling to help people in need. This service also prevents accidents due to ill-fitting or worn carpet.

Cleaning

Due to the reduction of cleaning support to older people we had continual calls for this service. The importance of this service to users is the independence it allows and provides people with a sense of well-being and takes the burden of carer’s other agencies. This service provides people and their carers with support that is valued.

At this time this service is only available for one-off visits, to get people back to a sense of coping.

Decorating

Decorating provides people with a feeling of control. It makes life look and feel better and allows people to take control over their own homes. The service provides internal and external decorating from one door to a whole house. The service is assessed and priced dependent on need, materials can be purchased for the customer or the customers materials can be used.
